they just posted this info about their upcoming 2nd LP. Anyone into these guys? In 2006 they made a pretty big splash with their debut record "The Dark Third."

The new stuff is a bit more trip-hop influenced, but it's still has a lot of alternative and progressive rock elements. They're at times, really creative with their vocal-harmonies. I suppose in a way they have that element in common with TDH actually.

I really like it. I might not listen to it on an ipod, but I'd definetly dance to it.

yeah me too..if you recall Neesh..they were at 1 time to play some dates the fall of '06 on the east coast with 3. Just imagine that tour?..with all the Porcupine Tree fans who dig these guys..that would have been a pretty sweet deal.

But of course Sony dropped them and there was no $.

sure..they have their Zeppelin moments..just listen to "Trembling Willows"

heard this new record finally..try it

The good: it does have some good material

The Bad: It's A LOT different

The Ugly: It's gonna turn-off a lot of fans, but it also will likely make some new ones.

The electronic element is quite dominant in the sound here. I'm a little worried I may feel about this like I did about a few recent follow-ups..namely Russian Circles and The Apex Theory (Mt.Helium)..some good work, but not really living up to hopes/potential. At the same time, it may be a grower and it's good thing that's it's different in that if they made TDT part 2 that would be worse. Plus, who knows where they'll go with their next record...it could be vastly different from this.

That all being said, this sucker is gonna require some time to fully evaluate.

Oh shit...thanks. very excited to hear this. Btw you always seem to get every album as soon as it leaks. Where do you usually find these new releases if you don't mind sharing?

various places..but I think it's a product (curse) of frequenting so many forums and checking blogs a lot.

this album is getting better after 3x's..I'd say it's a weak 4-star record..the 1st 2/3 I am starting to like more now. Dunno if I'll be able to get into as much as their last one, but it didn't take too long for it to grow on me.

Yea from the little I've heard so far I'm liking much of it. I'm pretty partial to electronica in general, so although this album is a lot less rock and roll I don't mind at all.

Hey SoundscapeMN, I swear I see you on every forum I lurk on! (I'm nimos on the PRR forum).

PRR's first album The Dark Third is probably the only album I consider to be up there with Acts I and II. The styles are quite different, but they both share incredible melodies and vocal harmonies.

For someone who hasn't heard any of their music before, I would recommend 'Bullitts Dominae'. Full track here:
http://www.last.fm/m...ullitts Dominae

The 2nd album is very different, but I think it's important for bands to actually progress and do something different.

lol..well Doug, you probably lurk on a number boards then. I'm trying to remember your name from the prr board, since I go there, but not that often.

At any case, yeah the new album is really great, but different. But I agree, it's for the better that it is different, just as Act I and Act II are for the better that they're different as well.

also for anyone who didn't see, they uploaded a new Acapella version of "The Gloaming" to their myspace yesterday. It's pretty sweet, especially if you like Acapella remixes, etc.

yeah mostly just in the Mumblings. I used to go there more, but it was around Sept/Oct last year they had a crash and/or financial problems paying their bills, so I along with it seemed like 70 or 80% of the regulars left. I think many of them still haven't gone back.

The traffic dropped off significantly. This forum in a lot of ways replaced that one for me. I started going back there over the last couple of months. The traffic levels are still down a lot, but it's not a completely dead forum (Mumblings) like it seemed to be last Fall.

yeah it went ot shit since the crash - that was a fucking interesting time to be though - with it shutting down and chaos erupting haha

there was, like Snork ssays, a golden age of drunkship and the coma which has long since passed - i much prefer t his place and only go to coma for mumblings and checking up on tmv news

bump.
just heard their new record "Hammer & Anvil". Damn..some good stuff on it, but I need to wait until Monday to check it out with headphones to know exactly how good it is. Some really heavy industrial stuff tho, especially on 2 tracks "Last Man, Last Round" and "Open Insurrection"

I discovered them months ago.

I really dig their atmosphere; I normally don't like electronics, but I enjoy how they incorporate it.
