So i didnt want to make an individual thread for all the post rock bands that are so great (GY!BE, explosions, mogwai, DMST, ASMZ etc)

Instead, ive created agenre threa,d much more appropriate to discuss all things post-rock, i know its a very broad term, but im sure ull agree that it can be used!

So, i pretty much love everything GY!BE has done, and i hope when i get the money i can buy a few of their vinyls to lay back to and experience, id say F#A# is my absolute favourite, so dark and creepy and yet has achingly beautiful sections to it.

But yh, it was hard to develop patience for this kind of music at first, but once i let it engulf me all was forgotten and i could listen to it for hours

I have been listening to Explosions so much once i got to college. The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place is constantly playing from my computer.

Also, I have been listening to the Friday Night Lights soundtrack a lot while doing homework. its absolutely perfect for it.

I recommend this band called Joy Want Eternity, they aren't that unique, but they are still really good

This Will Destroy You's self titled album is one of my favorite post rock albums. I can't stand their EP though. It's one of the most cliche examples of post-rock I've ever heard.

Johnnytwentythree is the closest a band will get to sounding like GY!BE that's not GY!BE

EF is tight

The Hand Of Nod is also pretty good.

I love post-rock.

FALSE! listen to sparrows swarm and sing. good shit but its basically the exact same.

download:

mogwai - rock action
giants - they, the undeserving
yndi halda - enjoy eternal bliss
caspian - you are the conductor
neil on impression - the perfect tango
mono - walking cloud and deep red sky, flag fluttered and the sun shined
65daysofstatic - one time for all time
tortoise - millions now living will never die

i used to be up on every single post rock band coming out but i'm not in that phase currently

Russian Circles and This Will Destroy You are the best IMHO. At least I'm listening to them the most at the moment as far as Post Rock goes.

I wouldn't really categorize 65daysofstatic as post rock. I think they lean more towards math rock. But I guess I'm just splitting hairs.

Such a great album.

Yosebu - I'll Be Waiting Till Dawn
Not straight up post-rock, more ambient, but amazing nonetheless.

P.S. You.May.Die.In.The.Desert is also good.

This Will Destroy You is really really awesome. I really dug Young Mountain when I first heard it, and their full album is just like so much cooler.

I still love Russian Circles. Saw them live last week and they were fantastic. Their drummer is seriously one of my favorites in 'today's scene'.
