From the ashes of the seperation of post hardcore outfit At the Drive-In rose two gods among men(at least they think so.) cedric bixler and omar rodriguez lopez are the mars volta and with all there little minions including john fusciante of RHCP they make beautiful musical love all over the genre spectrum. the lastest release the bedlam in goliath raped my ears so hard i could hardly hear for a week. apparently the have a crapton of new material ready. next album is supposed to be acoustic oriented. CANT WAIT!

i do love a lot of Volta stuff; in fact, if i'm in a Volta mood, i HAVE to listen to the entire album, or i just feel like i've missed out on something . . . saying that though, the guy's are pretentious twats :].

still rating Frances the Mute the most, though. musically, it's not their best - there's just something more there for me. and i'd have sex with the Day of the Baphomets bass solo if it had but two legs and some form of hole.

Frances the Mute is my fucking favorite. i won't even delve in the why.

this band changed my life; especially after seeing them live. i think what yall interpret as pretentiousness is really just inferiority towards their precocious, beautiful sound.

Yeah I've been thinking that they have been going downhill. But the EP and first two cds were amazing.

dude when he is playing omars stuff he is a minion. he is by no means a bad player. i actually like some of his solo stuff, i was just talking about the fact that he plays what omar writes so i think tool would be a better word. and not in a derogatory way. and speaking of tools you guys have to watch this!

lol, wut.

that interview with omar that you posted is pretty sweet. i think it's awesome that Omar has the ability and the opportunity to write and record as much as his heart desires and he takes advantage of it... but the mars volta stuff and the solo stuff of his that i've heard kinda starts to sound the same... hopefully the new album breaks away from that and can be more diverse.

well its supposed to be on the acoustic side so i think it will be fresh for an LP from them.

I like this band to an extent. Their best work was De-Loused in the Comatorium and Frances the Mute.
Everything else they have released has been subpar.

I agree with this to an extent, only because Amputecture was lame. The Bedlam in Goliath, however, has some really cool songs including Wax Simulacra and, my favorite, Ilyena.

The Mars Volta are fantastic. I'm an At the Drive-In fan, but TMV are loads of laundry better than ATDI. The new album is especially great.

Ahh and this is where I disagree, sirrrr.
Personally, The Mars Volta is amazing. But not top five amazing like ATDI will always be for me.
I can't think of a Mars Volta album I don't like.

I still think they should've just stopped after Frances...

Everything after was just... bleh. And I can't stand the new drummer. He's a robot programmed to play metal drums, missing the gears which give him the groove Jon Theodore had.

I agree with the first part but not the second. I love the new drummer.
