I saw a zappa plays zappa show last night in buffalo, ny. it was great until a little over an hour into it when the cops called the show off due to lightning (it was outside).

zappa was my dad's favorite artist, so i grew up on all of his work. probably explains a lot.

I have seen ZPZ 3 times now and the last time they played Three sets. First one was Apostrophe front to back. Second set was random hits. Third set was all about FRANK. For each solo, they had this huge screen behind them and the band would play live to old live archived solos that Frank did himself. He is by far one my most influential musicians of all time. He didn't give a shit about opinions of others and paved the way for music of today. Its sad that he is not more glorified for his achievements in all forms of music. From jazz, doo wop, fusion, pop, blues, rock, prog, classical, satire, and straight up shredding the guitar. Listen to Roxy and Elsewhere or Live in New York. That fuckin guy puts on a show. His rythym and percussionists were out of this world. Travers, aka the Vaultkeeper is awesome on drums. Terry Bozzio amazing. Vinnie Colaiuta phenomenal. George duke on keys. I could go on and on. If you haven't delved into his music, take it with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila. Blessed Relief, Easter Hay, Black Napkins, Camarillo Brillo, Montana. Just do it.

My mom saw him in concert way back when.

Zappa taught me an importance lesson in winter time: don't eat the yellow snow.

Not to mention the time some 19-year old kid decided to randomly send Zappa some unsolicited transcriptions of his music along with a demo tape, which impressed Zappa so much that he hired the kid to transcribe some more, then eventually added him as a guitarist in Zappa's band, thus launching the career of Steve Vai.
