so here's the deal. i listen to better/more music than anyone else here. so every few days, i'm going to come in here and post something, the available download link, and why i like it. then we can talk about how good it is, or if you don't like it, how stupid you are. this is gonna be a fun way to lrn2 good music.

if you want to post your own shit, be my guest. no shitty music/stuff we all already listen to though. this includes famous leaks that we'll all download anyways and can get elsewhere. this is for music discovery. use your judgment so the rest of us don't have to.

i'm going to start with this album:

The Flashbulb - Kirlian Selections (2005)
electronic / ambient / IDM

Posted Image

this album is unstoppable. it's sheer variety of sounds and styles is almost unparalleled. just when you think you have the flashbulb's sound pinned down, he'll throw a total curve ball. within this album is some of the prettiest, most creative, and at times intense, electronic music you've heard. he hasn't been around too long, but the flasbulb is getting to the point where he can hang with the heavyweights of this genre. if you want something that will open your mind to new types of music and sounds, yet is still very innately pleasing to the ear, pick this up.

rocks if you like: aphex twin, venetian snares, squarepusher, creativity

good to have you back bohan... the board was missing that wonderful air of pretentiousness.

but in all seriousness, this album is pretty damn sick, and i this forum is a sweet idea.

To Be A High Powered Executive - We Don't Want It Safe, We Want It Secret (2007)
indie / post-rock / instrumental

Posted Image

this is a band from right here in cleveland that we've hung out with a little bit and they have graciously taken us under their wing. they play an amazing mix of instrumental pop, jazz, indie, and post rock that will make you happy. all bias aside, they are by far one of the more interesting bands in a scene that can tend to get a little stagnant and repetitive. they are a lot of fun live, a lot of fun in person, and most of all, incredibly talented. i can't wait to play shows with them this summer.

rocks if you like: explosions in the sky, sharks keep moving, american football

I'm really liking this idea. I'm always looking for new (obscure) music.

absolutely gorgeous music from this icelandic composer/songwriter. if this music doesn't touch something inside you, you might be soulless. fun fact: this dude is only like 21.

rocks if you like: sigur ros, hammock, max richter, yann tiersen, the album leaf

it would be a waste of time for me to describe this record. one of the most passionate, honest, epic, beautiful rock albums to come out in a very long time. this is up in BTHATS area for me. just listen and take it in.

rocks if you like: the appleseed cast, sunny day real estate, this will destroy you, the receiving end of sirens

i know what you mean. i guess its just a grower. i thought the album was merely average for a long time before i realized how great it was.
