Minus the Bear are an amalgam of electronica drum beats, lots of rhythmic guitar tapping, neat time signatures, and best of all, they're not horribly pretentious, nor do they practice the whole "musical masturbation" deal, such as Dream Theater might. Probably one of the more unique bands of the millennium, Minus the Bear formed from Dave Knudson of Botch fame, and the members of a band called Sharks Keep Moving (both of which are great bands, but they're not Minus the Bear great). I don't know about the shows you guys went to, but at the Soapbox in Wilmington when we saw FoT with Dear Hunter, they played Minus the Bear over the PA while the bands were setting up.

Anyway, these guys are one of my favorite bands, and fast-climbing my last.fm charts. If you're a fan, discuss. If not, you should probably find the music video for "Pachuca Sunrise" or "Knights," or just get Highly Refined Pirates. Very top-quality stuff, and best of all its very accessible, I have yet to find someone who just straight up doesn't like Minus the Bear.

Awesome band.

when there's a guy in the band who does nothing but tap and stomp on delay pedals, yet the music just makes you want to dance, i declare they've won.

There was this one time where I drove to NJ to see them but really I just wanted to hang out with some friends and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. I liked them quite a bit recorded but wasnt sure how they would be live but I enjoyed it alot.

I love Minus the Bear. Especially the old stuff.

On a somewhat unrelated note: I do love me some Botch.

I heard the re-mastering doesn't sound any different at all. But then again I don't own a hard copy of the EP so I am going to get the reissue.
