Followed a recomendation from someone on an off-shoot Mars Volta forum. This band is just an absolute delight to listen to. I cannot see any Dear Hunter fan hating this. Just like TDH this band has incredible pop sensibilites with an experimental prog bent. It is not uncommon for them to completely switch things up mid song and have multiple sections and parts weaving throughout each other. Tons of instruments Saxaphone, flute, harp, piano, trumpet, synths, wurlitzer along with the usual drums, bass, guitar. Lots of gang vocals. I think the elaborate instrumentation makes me think of Kay Kay a lot and the sound is very similar.

They just released this free EP called New I Feeling:

Im half way through their second album now, and it is blowing my mind. The slower piano interludes remind me of Satie. SO basically, if you enjoy Kay Kay or The Dear Hunter you really should give this a shot.

I'm really enjoying Transmutation from their Infinite Ellipse ... release of 2008. More violin, please! I'm not sure what I think of the New I Feeling EP -- definitely needs (and deserves) another listening or two.

I CANT BELIEVE that you just made a thread about a band that is compared to 'tmv, tdh, anathallo, AND kaykay'
are you trying to give me a heart attack?
let the listening commence.

truth be told, i only put those names in there to get your attention Tara haha. There are similarities though.

I think i really have to be paying close attention to this band to enjoy them - i cant just have them on in the background - and im digging the 2008 release more than the EP - except for that epic sax solo in the first track

I love this site.

My favorite thing about LATR is all the new music I've been introduced to:

The Gay Blades -- I'm now obsessed with them.
A Great Big Pile Of Leaves -- Not my favorite, but I enjoy them.
Kiss Kiss -- Super creative, theatrical... love it.
As Tall As Lions -- Obsessed with them now too.
Hotel Of The Laughing Tree -- How can you not like them with a name like that?

add to this list Make A Rising.

EDIT: I'm still mad at you Stretts for murdering my April Fools thread, but this makes up for most of it haha

I can only get the EP to work. What am I supposed to do with the stupid RAR file for the second album?
WOBZIP can't seem to do anything with it.

EDIT: Got it.

I like it too. Particularly, the second album. Idk if I'd compare it to TDH or KK, though.
