Puerto Rican Zappa? or self-indulgent musical masturbator?

Ridiculous narrative hook aside, i personally think his new live album "どういたしまして" is one of the most beautiful albums i have ever heard. really digging the transition to more synth/electronic feel from previous abstract and latin groove type music. tychozorente and cizaņa de los amores i feel can be brother and sister. need to listen to mantra hiroshima still... he is hard to keep up with.

I listened to Los Suenos de un Higado the other day, it was surprisingly refreshing. It was a lot different than the typical Omar stuff. I personally think he's a genius and really admire the uniqueness of this music.

Omar makes my ovaries tingle like no other. I think he does love to take a big jerk and a splurge every now and then, but the music ends up well. I haven't heard of many other guitarists that voice lead as creatively as him or have his charm in interviews/on stage.

Not to mention he's a Machine of sorts. He must have released at least 20 albums over the past two years in all his projects, and still has time to Write, Direct and star as the lead in a film he's written himself.

is it me... or do i hear brass (specifically trombone slides) at the end of que disse pessoa? ? also... el diablo y la tierra is fantastic and epic imho.

what omar made of un escorpion perfumado seems mature to me. it feels evolved and cohesive to me... and besides ciencia de los inutiles, i think it is the best album he has released this year (not counting live album どういたしまして) then again, i did always enjoyed xenophanes. that may explain this.

Thanks for posting the track listing. I just ordered the double CD and can't wait to check it out. What did people think of the Coachella performance? It was great to see them featured on a live stream like that!

that live stream was soooo crisp!!! i plugged my macpro into my hdtv and it was like a high def broadcast. minus a few 1 second lags. that coachello performance was full of energy! cedric's vocals are outstanding and at the peak of his game. esp during that broken english jam where he starting singing backwards. wow. and deantoni's playing style is soo understated and tasteful (ha and like my boyfriend said, when we went to orlg in kentucky, it was worth the $20 ticket just to see deantoni's faces lmao) and he works soo effin well with juan. obv omar was diggin it. you can always tell because he slinks around all passionate like. with marcels synth dancing above it all... i dont even give a shit which group this will be released on record for -the mars volta or omar rodriguez-lopez group- its going to be much much different than anything ever released by either of these group. so excite for future of both tmv and orlg.

The only problem with the Coachella stream was that I wanted more, of course. Too greedy I guess, but the show I saw in San Fran was easily twice as long. I could tell they'd done a few shows in between (Santa Cruz?). Cedric, even amazing Cedric, had started to lose his voice a bit. But it was great to see them twice in one week -- too lucky for words. And I totally agree, that music could come out under any band name and record label, and I would claw my way up a mountain to buy it.

I haven't listened to all of his solo records as he puts them out faster than I can. Some of it bores me, Xenophanes is really really good though.

Great interview here.
So i guess that now his solo albums will be the only ones completely written by him.
I am kinda afraid of this change.

On a different note, i love Cryptomnesia.
please be nice
