what are some songs that make you emotional? why?

Some of mine are...

Shabutie - Star Cecil
I had a friend who loved Shabutie, this was his favorite song. He was in a car wreck and passed away. I get tears in my eyes everytime I listen to it.

Organic Stereo - The Stories Linger in My Mind
I first heard this as the seasons were beginning to change, and it fit so perfectly.

Joey Eppard - Balloon
There's just something about this song. Just Joey and his acoustic, and the lyrics take me back to being a teenager.

Bone Thugs n Harmony - Crossroads
I remember laying in my bed one night, and turning this song on. Once it hit the chorus it made me sad and happy at the same time.
(this was right after my friends funeral)

We'll talk about how we'll change but we will never follow through.

This'll sound stupid, but Canine Euthanasia by the Vandals. Makes me think of my old dog and I get all weepy.
The night keeps looking our way.

Oh, Star Cecil, how I love that song. Claudio performed an acoustic version to it for Black Card holders in August during a Coheed/Porcupine Tree/Dear Hunter concert, and I nearly died. It was a truly magical experience.

As for songs that make me emotional, I have tons.

Dyed in the Wool - Circa Survive
So I Thought - Flyleaf
White Blank Page - Mumford & Sons
Who Knows Who Cares - Local Natives
Single Millionaires - Brighten
You Are The Moon - The Hush Sound
Running Up That Hill - Placebo

Do you want me to keep going? Because I have a pretty long list...

@grizzly bear
It doesn't sound stupid at all.

@jinx
I bet that acoustic version was amazing. and you can keep going if you want. But, why do they make you feel that way?
any specific reason?

We'll talk about how we'll change but we will never follow through.

motion city soundtrack: time turned fragile, hold me down
both are songs written from another person's perspective talking about himself. it's weird how he cuts him self down and admits to being a fuck up. while I am not a total fuck up, its good sometimes to look at yourself from the outside.

single file - everything (stand tall)
the first song that came on after I had heard my grandmother died, and it was very fitting.

@singtheoverture
Oh, it was. I got the first minute on camera, but then my camera died. Stupid technology.

There are a few reasons. Some songs remind me of my past, and others just make me smile.

Dyed in the Wool, for example, reminds me of a situation with an ex. He just can't understand the physical and mental abuse he put me through. Long story haha.

So I Thought reminds me of my innocent childhood, and waking up to a harsher reality.

Who Knows Who Cares, because it defines who I strive to become as a person. I used to be the type of person who worries constantly, overthinks, and overanalyzes. Spontaneity and following a whim are relatively new and exciting concepts for me.

You Are The Moon because I had a friend who used to hate herself so much that she physically injured herself. I want her to know that I'll always be there for her, and that she is a beautiful person on the inside whether she is able to see that or not.

Also: Set Yourself On Fire, by Stars. Just inspiring in general. "Twenty years of sleep before we sleep forever." Definitely at the top of my favorite lyrics list, because it captures the idea of carpe diem.

the dear hunter - saved
epiphany while hearing this song prompted me to check in to rehab. this speaks to my soul. it really symbolizes the new life that i strive for. one that reflects on the 'war' of my past. mind on fire (with shame and craving) but standing my ground and having hope for the future. i can only listen to this sparingly.
"everything you thought you've lost you had"

saosin (with anthony green) - seven years (acoustic)
'the story ends. i would find a way without you' reminds me of the end of a 5 year relationship. soo much emotion in this song omg.

kay kay and his weathered underground - one ought to see
melancholic. seems to calmly reflect the chaos and routine of heroin addiction. perfect description.

bjork - joga.
i have cried a few times from the sheer beauty of this song. i get chills every fucking time i hear it.

For me, songs that get me emotional are more based in the music itself/events they remind me of, more than the lyrics.

First song I think of is Let Down by Radiohead.
The one line that gets me is "one day, I am going to grow wings" which is out of context, but for some reason it just seems perfect.

This one is weird but Ice Dance by Danny Elfman (from Edward Scissorhands).
Reminds me of a girl I was involved with for a couple years, she showed up at my house randomly on Christmas eve as I was watching the movie. (Plus the music is just gorgeous)

Stay By My Side by Good Old War.
Probably my least favorite song on the album actually, but it reminds me of a couple months back when my girlfriend and I broke up because I moved out to MA. "Just because I've gone away doesn't mean I'll be gone forever. There's a point in our love from across the world"

California by Copeland.
Reminds me of the early days with the girl mentioned above.

That's Not Me by The Beach Boys.
This song connected to me about a year ago, and I should have took it as a warning sign. Really sums up how I feel right now.

I'm sure there's a ton, but the one that pops in my head is Sol Solis by Moving Mountains.. especially the slow demo version. Ruins lives (in a good way, if that's possible?)

I completely agree with this.

Also, Casimir Pulaski Day by Sufjan Stevens is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard.

Currently playing this in my car actually. I didn't know until recently that Daryl Palumbo does backing vocals on Shower Scene.
