Like TDH, AIC have a different sound than most bands with vocals and music that represent the emotions of the character or yourself.

we didn't have things like autotune or pinch harmonics, and we liked it. I used to have to walk 5 miles, barefoot, in the snow to listen to the new Seven Mary Three record

lol I'm pretty sure there were pinch harmonics. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Collective Soul concert to attend.

Ughh if only you guys would open your minds... One person related them to collective soul? Collective soul blow and so do most grunge bands. Alice in chains aren't grunge and if it wasn't for the 90's a majority of the music you listen to wouldn't be around. I know most of you listen to progressive and I do as well and in a sense AIC are progressive. Layne Staley is considered one of the best male vocalist ever and the music they made has a strong emotional hold on its fans. But I love the Dear hunter and they are my favorite band behind AIC or else I wouldn't be on here..... Derrek, how do I add the banner?

I wouldn't say that disliking AIC is a reflection of us not opening our minds seeing as how (as far as me personally goes) we have all been hearing AIC songs for the past 15 years or so and are very familiar with their music. I listened to them in middle school and have since moved on. It's fine if it's a band that you're into, but they are one of the bands that I left behind as opposed to the bands I listened to at that time and still listen to to this day. AIC weren't grunge and no one said they were. There were a lot of grunge bands that kicked the shit out of AIC. And I didn't relate them to Collective Soul, the early 90's were brought up and I mentioned that band. And it's true that if it weren't for the 90's a lot of the music we listen to today wouldn't be around, but that doesn't mean AIC has anything to do with that. We all know who is responsible for influencing Godsmack....

So if you want a serious post about Alice In Chains, here you go: I honestly think most of Jar of Flies and Sap were pretty good, but only their softer stuff. As far as anything else they've done, I don't think there is anything special about them, they have been surpassed time and time again by bands of that era and our current one, and if they had never existed I don't think today's music would be much different. Now I'm going to go upstairs and listen to my Brittany Schpearsh recordsh.
