Didn't see this topic anywhere else. Anyway, I'm a big Dream Theater fan, and it was actually through the DT forum that I first heard about The Dear Hunter a couple years back. I know there's a lot of overlap over there, with many of the DT forum members being big Dear Hunter fans (Mike Portnoy - DT's drummer - is a big fan too - he listed Act II as one of his top 10 albums of 2007). Just wondering if it goes both ways and if there are any DT fans over here.

Dream Theater's aight. I've pretty much lost my taste for them but Train of Thought is a beast of an album

yes, but I know you so this is an obligatory default post.

FTR, I don't feel they've made anything up to their potential since 6 Degrees. But at the same time, every album has some music I like.

Ugh... so wrong... LTE is so boring.

Mike Portnoy makes Dream Theater semi-listenable. They have some cool instrumentals, but overall it's pretty cheesy.

i used to be a fan...but over time i guess they just ended up boring me.

i enjoyed some tracks from octivarium, although the title track was simply drug out way too long.

i still enjoy LTE to some extent (not the 2 minute warning tracks though...now THAT is some boring music)

plus john petrucci is one heck of a guitarist. that sucka can shred

Transatlantic (Mike Portnoy's sideproject)

http://www.mikeportn...m/m2293968.aspx

well the reunion/3rd album is happening. Just as long as Neal keeps the lyrics secular

TRANSATLANTIC FLIES AGAIN!!!

PROGRESSIVE ROCK SUPERGROUP
REUNITES FOR NEW STUDIO ALBUM.
POSSIBLE LATE 2009 RELEASE PLANNED.

TRANSATLANTIC, the progressive rock "supergroup" comprised of Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) and Neal Morse (ex-Spock's Beard), have reunited after a 7 year hiatus to begin work on a brand new studio album.

The band began work on the album in early April in Nashville and are expected to have it released by year's end if all goes as planned.

TRANSATLANTIC have previously released two studio albums to tremendous critical and fan acclaim: 2000's SMPTe and 2001's Bridge Across Forever. The band toured on the heels of each release with an American Tour in 2000 and a European Tour in 2001 and released subsequent Live DVD's/CD's from both tours before going their separate ways for an indefinite hiatus which lasted almost the entire decade.

so i thought it was an odd move to bring zappa plays zappa onto prog nation tour this year because they are like a super cover band incarnation but i love zappa to death so i might check it out in asheville.

I'll be honest, I'm not really much of a Dream Theater fan anymore. I used to be absolutely in love with them though.

I will stay that I still enjoy a few of their albums like I&W, Awake, Scenes, and SDOIT.

The funny part is that I don't really listen to them all that much either these days. This thread is from like 2 years ago. Just seemed relevant with the recent influx of DTF'ers. :)

I think most of the DTFers (at least the ones that are regulars on the facebook chat) would probably say the same thing I did. lol
