I love John Darnielle. His lyrics have definitely helped me along in my own songwriting process. The music is very simple, but very deep.
Anyone else like them?

Yeah, they have a fun way of writing.
Check out Mighty Purple, if you don't know'em.

I have only recently gotten into the mountain goats after downloading their HUGE discography in a torrent.

All of their releases can be downloaded here:

Is that torrent the one with like 50 live performances?
I only downloaded some of their key albums from that, haha.

I've been listening to The Sunset Tree and Tallahassee a lot, but I just listened to their new one, Heretic Pride, yesterday. I am loving Sax Rohmer #1. This album has drums!

Dude, you're doin it wrong. Their best album in my opinion is All Hail West Texas. I like their lo-fi acoustic stuff much more than their high production releases. If I wanted to listen to high production Mountain Goats, I would just listen to The Decemberists instead.

I downloaded all of their albums and none of the live stuff.

Sunset Tree and Tallahassee aren't very high production. But I want to listen to All Hail West Texas.
On a few more listens of Heretic Pride, I haven't found much I like on it, except for Sax Rohmer #1. All the lyrics are good, but the songs themselves are a bit boring. But that is just until I get half-way through the album and listen to other things.

BTW I love your avatar. Probably one of the best T&E sketches ever.
I laugh every time.

Finally!

Also, TMG has been one of my absolute favorites since my last post in this thread, which was apparently in 2009. I cover their songs constantly!

This song in particular, Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod, is one of my favorite songs in general. I believe every year since 2009 I've attempted to cover it and put it on Youtube..

Here's a few of those videos (from newest to oldest); it's funny to see how much i've changed in appearance over the years since high school.
