I actually hadn't considered it being sung by the mother. While I think that is an interesting idea, I think Casey actually said the song was a father singing to his son before or after he played it at one of the shows.

It sounds really good, Dave! Somehow I didn't notice until hearing that that the line is "Here in the confessional with my blood." Does that mean that potentially The Boy is listening to his child from the other side of the booth?
