What? No topic about Sufjan? He's probably one of my favourite singer-songwriters, his 50-States Project is a great idea, even though I doubt he'll be able to actually write all those albums... we'll see.

I love the "big-band" feeling you can find in "Illinois" and "The Avalanche"... even though I also love his previous, more intimate works. I also love his lyrics and his songs' titles... but I have a thing for long titles and bandnames, maybe that's just me. Favourite songs: "For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti" (which I have learned to play on guitar, sounds awesome), "Casimir Pulaski Day", "The Dress Looks Nice On You", "Come On! Feel the Illinoise!", "John Wayne Gacy, Jr.", "The Avalanche", "Chicago" and "We Are What You Say".

I never heard his second album, "Enjoy Your Rabbit". Any opinions about it?

I'd kill to hear some news about a new album. Your guess about the next State he's gonna cover?

i lovvvve sufjan i was goiung to make a thread a few weeks back but thought id leave it to someone else.

I adored michigan and then fell in love with illinoise, i love the sound its nice and fresh and has lots of light and shade which i love when listening to his albums

i think thats why i didnt like seven swans as much, it was 100 per cent folk and not enough funk.

is louisiana a state? thats my next guess haha

I heard he was doing Oregon next.

Though I heard that a long time ago, can't remember where I heard it from and haven't heard anything since.

This is a tight video of his magic:

enjoy your rabbit was good but completely different from everything else he did before or would do after. It's worth checking out, if I get my computer fixed I'll try and upload it for you if you'd like.

I heard Sufjan was giving up on the 50 states idea? I have no idea if that's true or not but it's taken him awhile to put out another new album since Illinois.

If it was my project, I'd probably scrap it. But it would never have been mine because it's just too ridiculous. Whole albums for all of the states--that's ambitious. Maybe 50 songs for 50 states. It would also be kind of ristrictive, especially for the oddball states like Idaho. It always seemed silly to me.

Yes, an upload would be nice, thanks! No need to hurry, though. ;)

I hope he's not giving up the project, I love the concept. He probably won't write an album for each state, but it'd be nice to hear some more state-related albums. For a foreigner it's a nice way to discover new facts/people/historical events, at the sime time listening to Sufjan's (awesome) music.

I bought Michigan and it didn't really please me that much. Maybe I just need to give it another listen

I doubt anyone really expects him to finish the project, especially since it's basically impossible for him to write 50 albums before he dies at the at which he's going
more state albums would be neat though
especially if he did my state

however he seems to be preoccupied with the midwestish area

Are you kidding? Everyone is expecting him to do it. It's basically like when Flash raced to ride all of the rides at Disney World on Step By Step.
