Apparently a lot of people have been getting confused by username changes (including myself) and occasionally have no idea who they're talking to. If you find yourself in this situation, click on their profile, and in the top right corner, underneath the rep display there's a section called "User Tools". Just click on "Display name history" and there's your answer.

That's a whole hell of a lot of steps. I shall resort to calling everyone "Malcolm" in honor of the amazing bobcat that lives in my apartment.
